This is Gav!!
Gavin Menzies has been a Youth and Development Worker for the City of Edinburgh Council for over ten years, working in a wide variety of areas including Holiday clubs, developing Youth Centre and School based programmes as well as delivering sports and activities to charities and after school clubs.
Gavin is probably better known however for his contributions to the sport of basketball. Having had an impressive playing career in the Edinburgh and Scottish Leagues and competitions, he set up the High Flyers Basketball Academy as a way of giving back to the community whilst offering young people a new and exciting way to get involved in the sport. Coaching in cooperation with the Active Schools and Basketball Scotland, he has helped turn time-worn halls and premises into multi-sport facilities and creative new play spaces for everyone to enjoy. For more Information or to see more about what the High Flyers are up to please see the website: www.highflyersbasketball.weebly.com
Whilst working in partnership with the Scouts, John Muir Trust, The City of Edinburgh Council and local primary schools and groups across Edinburgh, Gavin has contributed towards developing city wide strategies to help young people and families develop their potential and lead active, enjoyable lives.
Sadly, at the end of 2013, one of the local clubs Gavin had co-setup and delivered, the CYC Sports and Activities Club had to close as the building and all of the equipment was damaged and tragically lost in a fire. This dealt a terrible blow, not just the club but to the whole community who used the Corstorphine Youth and Community Centre.
Gavin has met with the management committee of the Centre and has and will continue to support its rebuild. For more information on how you can help please visit - http://www.corstorphine-youth-and-community-centre.co.uk/fund-raising

"The Staff and committee at Gate 55 have given us a fantastic opportunity to once again, open an affordable, high quality, exciting sports and activities camp to the children and young people of Edinburgh West/South-West. I promise to do whatever it takes to make this a success, to bring young people together in their collective love of playing sport and making new friends. Thank you for your continued support."
